UPPER HANOVER PA – A new Knight Road bridge that crosses Green Lane Reservoir in Upper Hanover Township, southwest of Red Hill, was re-opened Saturday (Dec. 10, 2016), Montgomery County commissioners announced.
The former bridge closed May 16 (2016) to allow complete construction of a new bridge. Removal and replacement of the bridge cost approximately $2.4 million, of which federal funding paid 80 percent of project costs; the state, 15 percent; and the county, 5 percent.
The old bridge had a 4-ton weight limit, which did not allow for most trucks or emergency vehicles
to cross. During 2011, when the restriction was put in place, an estimated 2,000 vehicle crossed the bridge daily. The new bridge no longer has a weight limit, and increases safety and mobility.
The bridge opening is expected to alleviate area traffic issues, commissioners said.
